About us
The Institute for Laser Technologies in Medicine and Metrology at the University of Ulm (ILM) is supported by the non-profit foundation under civil law of the same name. The ILM connects academic research and teaching with economic and medical practice. Publicly funded projects create knowledge and lay the foundation for inventions. These are used in cooperation projects with companies for innovative products.
Competencies
The ILM has a distinctive interdisciplinary structure with 7 competence groups. Physicists, chemists and biologists develop new optical methods for medical diagnostics and therapy as well as for measurement technology. A strong engineering group professionally translates ideas into devices. The LaserTherapyCenter allows in-house clinical trials.
Areas of business
The nucleus of the ILM was laser medicine. Together with optical spectroscopy, it still forms a methodological focus, supplemented by research into the optical properties of tissue and other scattering materials. The core business areas are medicine and dentistry, flanked by the fields of "surface technology" and "optical process control".
